A long time ago, a wonderful couple named Enrico and Elena di Scavini started a little toy company shortly after World War I. They called it "Lenci", which was Elena's nick name. Italians pronounce it [Len-chi], everyone else calls them [Len-see]. Which ever it is, these unique toy creation by the Scavini's are known all around the world.
In 1938 Elena di Scavini, the creative director, stepped down from The Lenci Company, passing the torch to Philade and later Beppe Garella. Father and son took over and carried the company, adding many new products till 1992, when the company was then passed on to Beppe's wife and children.
In 2001 The Lenci Company closed it's doors for good. All inventory, manufacturing equipment and business holdings were sold or disbursed. So now Lenci dolls, toys and home goods are no more.
We are in great appreciation here of the mastery that once was one of the world's great toy and doll manufactures. Not only is Turin Italy at a great loss, so are we collectors who find joy in every Lenci we discover.
